Learning for Life

Since its earliest days, Friends School Haverford has dedicated all of its attention and resources to early childhood and pre-adolescent education. The School's approach is distinctive in its commitment to child development theory, the whole child, and the beliefs and practices of the Religious Society of Friends. The natural curiosity that children possess is tapped through a curriculum that surrounds each student with opportunities to discover, experiment, evaluate, express, present, question, create and explore. The process
of learning, through which students develop self-confidence and identity as effective, competent, and motivated learners, is as valuable and important as the knowledge gained.

The content of the curriculum is developed and monitored by the Friends School Haverford faculty. Faculty members serve on curriculum review committees, participate in professional development programs and workshops, and meet regularly to discuss and collaborate on curriculum integration and development. National standards for the disciplines serve as foundations. Scope, sequence, and integration are achieved through Rubicon Atlas Curriculum Mapping. The Educational Records Bureau’s Comprehensive Testing Program–4 is administered each year to students in grades three through six.
