78 Years Later, A Reunion of Friends An old adage holds that you can’t go home again, but Friends School Haverford alumni know otherwise. On April 25, 2008, FSH welcomed back to campus a record number of alumni for a reunion of 1930-1960 graduates. Returning grads were treated to a presentation by the sixth grade class about the history of Friends School Haverford, followed by shared story telling. While the campus has changed significantly, it was remarkable how the essential character of the School has remained the same. Alumni from as far back as 1930 all the way up to the soon-to-be-graduates have a shared sense of the strength and safety of the Friends School Haverford community, a solid academic preparation for their futures and many fond memories of fun and friendships. The reunion committee, chaired by Priscilla (Polly/Pat) Longstreth Roche ’40, met all its goalsto rustle up the best turnout of FSH graduates, to show off the new campus, to reconnect with long lost friends and to have a really great party. There are few elementary schools that can boast that their alumni are eager to return to campus as many as 78 years after graduation but our alumni know that returning to campus is like coming homeand at Friends School Haverford, you can indeed always come home. |
