Description
Friends School Haverford seeks a caring, collaborative, and dedicated educator to join our Early Childhood team as an Assistant Teacher in the older toddler classroom (ages 2–3), beginning in the 2025–2026 academic year. This is a 10-month position with the possibility of summer employment in our camp program for the same age group. Rooted in Quaker values and a child-centered philosophy, our Early Childhood program nurtures curiosity, independence, and community. We emphasize inquiry-driven, nature-based learning and believe young children thrive through meaningful relationships, purposeful play, and exploration. Our program is licensed by both the Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Pennsylvania Department of Education through the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools (PAIS).

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the lead teacher in creating a warm, inclusive, and engaging classroom that reflects children’s interests and developmental needs.
  • Assist in implementing a responsive, emergent curriculum aligned with Quaker values and nature-based learning.
  • Build positive relationships with children to support their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
  • Engage in daily routines, including circle time, small group work, outdoor exploration, and transitions.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment and ensure the health and safety of all children.
  • Attend to children’s physical and hygienic needs, including diapering, toileting, and daily rest time.
  • Observe and document children's play and learning to support classroom planning and communication with families.
  • Participate in team meetings, school events, and ongoing professional development.
  • Model respectful communication and positive guidance strategies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the broader life of the school.

Requirements
  • Associate’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with young children in a school or child care setting.
  • Passion for working with toddlers and supporting child-led, inquiry-based learning.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn about Quaker values and practices.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to collaboration, flexibility, and reflective practice.
  • Ability to follow DHS and Keystone STARS regulations and school health and safety policies.
