Great Oaks (1st–5th grade)

Children crave more inspiration and freedom than many camps provide. At our Great Oaks camp, children participate in a wide variety of programs, including arts and crafts, competitive and non-competitive games, cooking, drama, and outdoor challenges. We balance the morning of teacher-led activities with an afternoon directed by camper choice with options they help to generate each day.

The morning comprises activity blocks (three), snack, and recess (super fun). During each block, the camper groups will rotate with their counselors to teacher-led activities. The counselors support a teacher at each special experience, ranging from outdoor games to arts and crafts, and a third theme block that changes topics by week.

But wait, it gets better! After the first block, all campers enjoy a camp-provided snack, a recess after the second, and after the third, we break for lunch, followed by an extended recess!

After lunch and recess, each camper will select two enrichment activities each day.

Options include:

Great Oaks Morning Activities—Monday Through Friday

The regular morning schedule will consist of three sessions. With support from the group’s counselor, our expert teachers will work in small groups of 10 to 14 campers. These sessions will include an activity to support the growing minds of our campers and will engage the creativity and curiosity within each child. We take the day off from our morning sessions on Friday mornings to do something different together. You’ll hear much about Friday mornings from your campers at pick-up!

Physical Education

Each morning, campers will engage in focused physical activity. We will stretch muscles and bodies with activities like basketball, tag games, soccer, tumbling, throwing and catching, and running. Children can participate in a different physical activity each day of the week. In competitive and noncompetitive games, campers will develop cooperation and communication skills. This daily session will combine physical education with the fun of recess.

Arts & Crafts

Each morning, we will dedicate a block of time to arts and crafts. This is a time when your children can explore their creative side, working with a variety of media. An art teacher will lead the projects, including materials such as paint, cardboard, clay, and pastels.

Weekly Themes

Weeks 1 through 9 will include a weekly theme in the third morning class, which will vary from week to week. While these themes may be offered for more than one week, they are designed so the material covered differs from week to week, and campers do not need to attend the first week of an offering to participate in the second week. In this way, we hope to provide families with flexibility. Campers are welcome to enroll in whichever weeks best suit their interests and scheduling needs. See the Great Oaks Specials Schedule throughout the summer here.
