FSH Annual Fund

As a small school, Friends School Haverford relies on the generosity of its donors to close the gap between tuition and the true cost of an FSH education. Tuition covers approximately 78 percent of the actual cost of educating a child at Friends School Haverford, leaving the balance to be met through other revenue sources. The most significant of these is the FSH Annual Fund. This Fund provides essential unrestricted revenue that directly impacts daily life here at school. Specifically, donations help to fund competitive teacher salaries and benefits, professional development, need-based financial aid, computer equipment, classroom supplies, arts programs, Spanish language instruction and much more.

The FSH Annual Fund is supported by a large cross section of our community: parents, teachers, grandparents, "grandfriends," alumni, alumni parents f(F)riends of the school and more. It is also the first way many graduates and parents express their desire to give back, and its health is both a sign of gratitude for the donors and a vote of confidence for our students and faculty.

We’re counting on you! Every gift matters. Every personally significant gift, no matter the size, demonstrates a collective commitment to FSH. Indeed, the only gift too small is no gift at all.

The FSH Annual Fund is conducted during the school’s current fiscal year, running from July 1 – June 30. A pledge or gift may be made at anytime. Gifts made on or before December 31 are eligible to be claimed as a current year tax deduction.

EITC-Educational Improvement Tax Credits

Friends School Haverford has been approved to participate in the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC). This program provides significant tax advantages to participating companies while dramatically supporting financial aid programs for Friends School Haverford students.

If you are affiliated with a company that pays Pennsylvania taxes, EITC provides a tax credit of up to 90% to companies that donate to non-profit scholarship and educational improvement programs. The Friends School Haverford Scholarship Organization is now a qualified recipient of those funds. The FSH Scholarship Organization supports the School’s mission to be an intentionally diverse community by making a superior educational experience available to as many capable and talented students as possible, regardless of economic circumstances.

Tax credits reduce your actual tax bill dollar for dollar. That means you can make a gift to the FSH Scholarship Organization with minimal cost to your company. For example: If your company makes a $10,000 gift to the FSH Scholarship Organization, your PA tax liability will be reduced by $7,500. If you pledge to make that gift for two consecutive years, your $10,000 gift will reduce your liability by $9,000 each year. The remaining out-of-pocket expense is federally tax-deductible.

Endowment Funds

Building a strong and growing endowment is essential to Friends School Haverford’s long-term financial health. Because endowment contributions remain intact in perpetuity — only income from their investment may be utilized — they support our mission today and into the future. FSH’s endowment provides support for financial aid, faculty compensation and professional development, technology and facilities for generations to come.

Planned Giving

Bequests, charitable gift annuities, trusts and other planned giving arrangements are vital to the School’s work and future.  A gift to FSH that is a part of a thoughtful, comprehensive estate plan provides a way of completing a lifetime of giving. It may also allow you to make a significant gift to FSH that was not possible at an earlier stage of life. Planned gifts can provide advantages such as lifetime income and tax benefits to the donor or other beneficiaries.
