Grateful for our Unsung Souls

As essential as it is to strive to fulfill our highest ideals and live our mission, such work is only possible in clean classrooms stocked with paper towels and tissues, and whose trash and recycling bins are ready to be filled anew. Each school day, Malcolm Smith and his crew report to work late in the evening and labor through the earliest hours of the morning to provide us with a clean slate on which to do our work each day. Similarly, Ryan from JPM Catering arrives at the door every day with his red insulated bag, ready to distribute homemade lunches, bringing sustenance in the form of a smile and warm food. And, while you may consider yourselves “lucky” if you don’t yet know our Haverford School District nurses, Mary Mellon Somers and Charlene Turner, they do the crucial work of tending to illness and injuries, both big and small.

Malcolm, Ryan, Mary, and Charlene are just a few of the unsung souls who work behind the scenes to make it possible to strive to live our mission at Friends School Haverford. Please join me in honoring their efforts and acknowledging the work that too easily goes unseen.

Lastly, of course, I’m grateful to all of you for sharing the gift of your children with us-- it is their energy, curiosity, and kindness that make our work not only possible but inspiring. We are ever grateful for the time we spend with them each day. On behalf of all of us at Friends School Haverford, thank you!
